Your Year of Holding the Reins Lightly. This is the year you learn, with some delight, where your actual power lives. It lives in the showing up, the Tuesday you arrive when arriving costs something, the draft you open when the draft resists you. A project you've been circling finds its rightful pace when you stop trying to control its reception and simply keep doing the work you know how to do. By late summer, a relationship quietly deepens because you brought yourself fully to one difficult conversation and then let the other person do what they needed to do with it. That release turns out to be the generous thing, and also the freeing thing. The year rewards your presence and returns to you something you had almost stopped expecting. Show up again. The discovery lives just past the showing up.

Some of what you carry came to you before you had language for refusing it. Your mother's way of apologizing without saying sorry. Your father's shoulders when money got tight. The particular silence that meant someone was about to leave the room. You learned these as facts about the world, not choices someone was making. Now you can see the difference. What felt like weather was actually a person deciding how to be in the room. That recognition is the first step toward deciding differently. You don't have to keep their solutions to problems you don't actually have.
