The secret of getting ahead is getting started.
Mark Twain
Your Year of Holding It Loosely. This is the year you stop white-knuckling the things you love and discover they like you better that way. A possession you have been quietly guarding loosens its grip on you in spring, and you laugh at how light your hands feel without it. By midsummer a friend who has seen the version of you that doesn't make the highlight reel shows up exactly when it counts, and stays, and means it. Something you almost talked yourself out of starting gets started anyway, which is the whole trick. You learn the difference between keeping a thing and being kept by it, and you choose keeping every time. Let the grip go and watch what stays. The good things have a way of sticking around when you give them room.
