The skill you have not used in years is still there, but your hands will tell you what your memory has forgotten about how it actually worked. You think you remember the big moves, the sequence, the general shape of what you used to do well. What you have lost is the small physical knowledge, the way your wrist turned or where your weight settled when the work was going right. The first time back, your body will correct you before your mind catches up to what feels wrong. This is not rust.
