The basic thing nobody asks is why do people take drugs of any sort? Why do we have these accessories to normal living to live? I mean, is there something wrong with society that's making us so pressurized, that we cannot live without guarding ourselves against it?
John Lennon
Sometimes you know what you need to do before you are ready to admit you need to do it. The knowing sits there, patient and unwelcome, while you arrange your days around not looking directly at it. You keep the routine steady, the surfaces smooth, telling yourself that the discomfort is temporary, that it will resolve itself if you just wait long enough. But the knowing does not fade with time. It gets heavier, more expensive to carry, until the weight of avoiding it becomes greater than the weight of the thing itself. The readiness arrives not when you feel brave enough, but when you finally get tired of the effort it takes to stay unready.
