The promise that has grown heavy in your hands was made by a version of yourself that did not yet know what keeping it would require. You said yes to the easy part, the part that felt generous and possible in the moment of agreement. But promises live in time, and time changes the person who made them as much as it changes the circumstances they were made within. What you are carrying now is not the failure to be who you were, but the cost of becoming who you are. The question is not whether you can still keep it, but whether the person you have become can make a new promise that serves the same intention.
