I have said that the soul is not more than the body, and I have said that the body is not more than the soul, and nothing, not God, is greater to one than one's self is.
Walt Whitman
The risk that feels manageable when you first wake up grows teeth as the day wears on, not because the risk itself has changed but because you have talked yourself back into all the reasons it matters. Morning clarity runs on fewer variables. Your mind has not yet loaded the full weight of what other people might think, what could go wrong three moves ahead, what you would tell your mother if she asked. The version of the choice that made sense at seven in the morning was probably the right size all along. The rest is just the day's accumulated noise, mistaking volume for importance.
