I was thinking about how people seem to read the bible a lot more as they get older, and then it dawned on me—they're cramming for their final exam.

The boundary that someone keeps testing is probably the same boundary you have been explaining for months, and the explaining is the first sign that the boundary was never as solid as you thought it was. Real limits do not require justification or repeated defense. They simply are, like a closed door or a full schedule. When you find yourself in the third conversation about why this particular line exists, you are no longer talking about the boundary itself but about whether you have the right to draw it at all. The person doing the testing already knows your answer. They are asking a different question entirely.
