I celebrate myself, and sing myself, and what I assume you shall assume, for every atom belonging to me as good belongs to you.
Walt Whitman
The habit that has outlived its usefulness is usually the one you keep because it once helped someone else. You learned to check in on everyone's mood before speaking your own thought, to soften your needs until they fit the shape of what felt possible in the room. This worked when the rooms were smaller and the people in them needed you to be the one who bent first. But you have been in different rooms for months now, maybe years, and you are still bending in the old direction. The habit that served love so well is now serving a memory of love, and your actual life is waiting on the other side of noticing the difference.
