On the single strand of wire strung to bring our house electricity, grackles and starlings neatly punctuated an invisible sentence.
John Updike
The expectations other people have for your choices often feel like they should matter more than they do. You can spend weeks trying to meet a standard that was never yours to begin with, adjusting your decisions to fit someone else's idea of what would be right or smart or kind. But there is a moment when you realize that keeping everyone comfortable is not the same thing as making the right choice. What looks like consideration from the outside can become a trap from the inside, where your own voice gets quieter and quieter until you forget it was ever there. The week ahead asks you to remember the difference between making peace and making progress.
