The fact that an opinion has been widely held is no evidence whatever that it is not utterly absurd; indeed in view of the silliness of the majority of mankind, a widely spread belief is more likely to be foolish than sensible.
Bertrand Russell
The apology that was never offered sits in the room differently now than it did when you first noticed its absence. What felt like a clear wrong has become something more complicated, a question about whether you needed the words or just the acknowledgment that something had shifted between you. You have been carrying both the hurt and the work of deciding whether the hurt was reasonable, which is its own kind of exhausting. The person who should have apologized may never understand what they did, but that does not mean you have to keep explaining it to yourself.
