The version of yourself that you outgrew still shows up in other people's expectations of who you are. They remember the way you used to handle conflict or the topics that used to make you light up, and they keep offering you the same conversations. You find yourself explaining that you have moved past certain reactions, certain needs, but the explaining feels like backsliding into the very self you are trying to leave behind.
