The hardest conversations are the ones where you already know what you need to say but have been waiting for the right version of yourself to say it. You keep rehearsing different approaches, trying on different tones, as if the perfect delivery might make the difficult thing less difficult. But what you are really waiting for is not the right words but the willingness to be changed by having said them. Some conversations ask you to step into a slightly different shape than the one you wore into the room. The version of you that starts talking is not the same one that finishes.
