The promises that become hardest to keep are the ones you made when you wanted to be seen as the person who could keep them. What felt like commitment at the time was partly performance, and now the gap between what you said you would do and what you can actually do has become the thing you think about when you wake up too early. The real question is not whether you can still deliver what you promised, but whether you can admit that the original yes was bigger than your actual capacity.
