The small resentments that have been growing are usually about the same thing: someone treated you like you were asking for too much when you were asking for exactly what you needed. The feeling builds because part of you keeps trying to make the request smaller, more reasonable, easier to grant. But the original ask was already reasonable, and shrinking it only proves their point that you want more than you deserve. What you are actually angry about is not their no but your willingness to negotiate down from a fair starting place. The resentment is information about where you have been editing yourself to fit into rooms that were already too small.
