One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious. The latter procedure, however, is disagreeable and therefore not popular.
C.G. Jung
The plan that looked so clear six months ago now feels like it was designed by someone you no longer recognize. What seemed essential then reads like performance now, and what felt like ambition reads like a need to prove something to people whose opinions you have stopped tracking. You find yourself asking not whether the plan will work, but whether you still want it to work. The version of success it was aiming for belongs to a version of yourself that was trying too hard to look right from the outside. The plan that emerges from this questioning will be smaller and truer.
