The debts that matter most are the ones that cannot be paid back in kind. Someone gave you time when you had nothing to offer in return, or taught you something that changed how you see a whole category of problem. You carry these debts differently than the ones with payment schedules and interest rates. They sit in the part of your day where you decide what kind of attention to give the next person who needs something from you. The only way to honor what was given is to give it forward, but never to the same person and never in the same form.
