Do not forever with thy vailed lids Seek for thy noble father in the dust. Thou know'st 'tis common; all that lives must die, Passing though nature to eternity.
William Shakespeare, Hamlet
Some apologies were never going to come, and the waiting for them is the thing that needs to end, not the person who should have spoken. You have been carrying a debt that was never yours to carry, expecting words that would change the past when the past has already done its work on who you are now. The absence of those words has become its own kind of answer. What you do with that answer, how you move forward without the conversation you deserved, is the real work ahead. The person who needed to hear your pain may never understand it, but you can still decide what to do with everything you learned while you waited.
