The debts that are not about money are the ones that shape how you move through rooms, what you avoid saying, whose calls you return first. You carry these obligations in your shoulders and your careful choice of words, in the extra hour you spend making sure someone else feels heard. Some of these debts were inherited before you could walk, others you took on by being the one who stayed when others left. The hardest part is not the carrying but recognizing which ones were never yours to begin with, and what it would mean to set those down.
