Human beings don't necessarily exist inside of (or correspond to) the neat racial, gendered or national boxes into which we often unthinkingly place them.It's a mistake to ask literature to reinforce such structures. Literature tends to crack them. Literature is where we free ourselves.

The ache you have been dismissing as minor is actually your body asking for something specific, and the specificity matters more than the size of the request. You keep translating what hurts into what you think you can manage right now, but that translation loses the information the pain was carrying. Your shoulder wants rest in a particular position, your stomach wants food at a different time, your back wants you to stop sitting in the chair that looks right but feels wrong. The body's complaints are not general protests about getting older. They are detailed instructions about what would help today.
