The work you have been doing without being asked to do it is work that needed doing, and you knew it needed doing before anyone else noticed it was missing. This happens more than you think: the gap appears, your hands move toward it, and only later does someone think to make it official. You have been operating from a read of the situation that turned out to be correct, even when you could not explain why you were so sure.
