The risk that seems manageable at seven in the morning has usually doubled by lunch, not because anything about it has changed, but because you have spent the day thinking instead of moving. Morning carries a kind of clarity that does not survive prolonged examination. The longer you hold a decision up to the light, the more reasons you find not to make it, until what felt like a reasonable step begins to look reckless. There is a version of careful that is just fear dressed up in good sense, and the only cure for it is the first action, however small.
