The promise that has become difficult to keep was probably easier to make than it should have been, and harder to break than you expected. What looked like a simple commitment when you said yes has revealed itself to be three or four different commitments bundled together, each with its own timeline and cost. You are learning that some promises are less about the thing you agreed to do and more about who you thought you would be when the time came to do it. The real question is not whether you can still deliver what you said you would, but whether the person who made that promise still exists in the same way.
