The things you think about doing when you first wake up often seem perfectly reasonable until you say them out loud to someone else at lunch. There is something about the morning light that makes the bold move look manageable, the difficult conversation look overdue, the leap look like the only sensible next step. By afternoon, you remember all the reasons you have been waiting. But here is what the morning version of you understands that the afternoon version forgets: the risk was never actually smaller in those early hours. You were just willing to meet it at full size.
